So I’m pretty sure you’ve seen the Facebook video with the “Japanese Jiggly Pancakes” floating around. I did and I was intrigued. I love a good pancake. So much that my husband has mastered fluffy pancakes with super crispy edges made in a buttered cast iron pan just for me. So I found the location famous for these little pancakes and to my surprise, they were right up the street in Tokyo. So boom, I just walk in in order, right? Wrong! They only serve 20 orders at 11am, 3pm, and 6 pm. Being that the cafe was 1.5 hours away from home; I scratched it off my bucket list because it seemed impossible to secure a stack. Then boom. While in Kyoto, we spotted the café, added it to our plan, showed up 30 minutes early for the 3pm time slot, and we were in.
After hours of walking around Kyoto, we figured we would order a meal before the pancakes because we were starving. LET ME TELL YOU, THIS WAS THE BEST FRENCH TOAST THAT I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE. Period. Hands down. Heavenly. Everything. I’m pretty sure this French toast was served at the Last Supper ha-ha.
So did the premium pancakes live up to the hype? Was it worth the wait? Did they taste so good that I would try my hand at another time slot? Were they the jiggliest, fluffiest, lightest and tastiest pancakes I’ve ever tasted? No. I didn’t like them at all ha-ha. They were dense with a marshmallow texture and a super egg white taste. It lived up to its soufflé premium pancake name. It was I was so disappointed. And we had 2 orders of them so my husband ate 5 of them ha-ha. He enjoyed them, no surprise there. They were definitely cute and instagram picture worthy. I will definitely visit again to order a slice of French toast from Heaven!
