DOLE PLANTATION: HAWAII's PINEAPPLE EXPERIENCE
--It was originally operated as a fruit stand beginning in 1950, Dole Plantation opened to the public as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989.
--A sailor, Captain John Kidwell, is credited with founding Hawaii’s pineapple industry, importing and testing a number of varieties in the 1800s for commercial crop potential.
--Pineapple is called “halakahiki” in Hawaiian and means foreign fruit.
--The highlight of this trip for me was the Pineapple Garden Maze. The maze stretches over three acres and includes nearly two and one-half miles of paths crafted from 14,000 colorful Hawaiian plants. We only found 5/8 secret locations due to time. My husband led this adventure. I just followed with the video camera and lots of laughs because we got lost a whole lot of times lol.
